We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Archivist to join our Engineering and Technical Support team. Working with the Natural Assets & Heritage Team and Records Management Teams, this is a unique opportunity to maintain and administer the Joint Sydney Water and WaterNSW Historical Archive collection dating back to 1888. 

About the Role 

This role will maintain and administer Sydney Water and WaterNSW joint Archive collection in line with established processes, ensuring all archival, legal, and policy obligations are upheld. You will facilitate appropriate access to the collection for internal business units and external stakeholders within the required legislative and policy frameworks. You will lead the implementation of an archives management plan that will reshape how Sydney Water and WaterNSW manage and provide access to the archive collection.  

You should enjoy working under minimal supervision and have a desire to ensure processes and legislative compliance are followed. You will also: 

  • Provide access to the archival collection for Sydney Water and WaterNSW as determined under Sydney Waters approved access directions 
  • Use retention/disposal authorities and collection development policy to accept/reject and assess material 
  • Apply metadata to materials in the collection 
  • Facilitate the transfer of holdings into the State Archives Collection and/or NSW Govt Records Repository as required and manage the implementation of other records keeping tools to rationalise the physical collection, including digitisation of records 
  • Conduct basic archival conservation functions (as required) 
  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal business areas and external stakeholders. 

The role involves handling boxes and archive materials in a safe manner. 

About You: 

In addition to qualifications in archives, records management, or information studies (or equivalent professional experience) and membership of appropriate bodies such as the Australian Society of Archivists (ASA) we are looking for: 

  • Experience in the description, categorisation, digitisation, storage, preservation, and retrieval of archive material in a range of media and formats 
  • Experience identifying and evaluating collection holdings - to determine their relevance to requests for information, including application of access directions or internal policy on sharing of information assets 
  • Well-developed communication skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
