What will you be doing?

Sydney Water is seeking a highly skilled Operational Technology (OT) Engineer to lead and support the configuration, development, and ongoing enhancement of our IICATS/SCADA systems.

In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of designing and maintaining intelligent control systems that monitor and manage water and wastewater assets across Greater Sydney. You’ll work closely with a dedicated team of engineers to deliver high-performance, secure, and scalable solutions that keep our communities running.

  • Provide expert-level engineering oversight and hands-on support for IICATS/SCADA software throughout project lifecycles and operational phases.
  • Lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of control systems that enable real-time monitoring and automation of Sydney Water’s assets.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure system reliability, compliance, and innovation.
  • Drive technical excellence and contribute to strategic initiatives in OT and digital transformation.

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering (or a related discipline), along with proven experience in delivering complex engineering projects and applying advanced computer applications to process control environments.
  • 12+ years of hands-on expertise in planning, developing control software, and configuring SCADA systems for water, recycled water, and wastewater networks.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in communication networks (LAN and WAN) and protocols
  • A strong track record of implementing new technologies that enhance the performance and reliability of water and wastewater assets.
  • Client-Focused Engineering: Proven ability to translate complex operational requirements into robust SCADA engineering solutions, including the development of concept reports and technical inputs for business cases.
  • Demonstrated success in planning and managing engineering projects, from concept through to commissioning, with a focus on quality, cost-efficiency, and timely delivery.
  • Commissioning Excellence: Solid experience in the commissioning of telemetry and SCADA systems, ensuring seamless integration and operational readiness.
  • Organizational Agility: Strong ability to plan and prioritize work to meet demanding timeframes and deliverables without compromising quality.
  • Collaborative Mindset: A natural relationship builder who maintains effective working relationships across project teams, customers, delivery partners, and service providers.
