What will you be doing?

 Bondi Water Resource Recovery Facility receives wastewater from a catchment of approximately 3,800 hectares. It is also Sydney Water’s oldest and third largest ocean Resource Recovery Facility, behind Malabar and North Head. The plant has the significant task of protecting one of Australia’s most famous icons, Bondi Beach. It services approximately 75,000 residents living from Bondi to Rozelle as well as Sydney’s central business district.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Reliability Engineer to join Sydney Water’s Bondi WRRF Hub to provide technical leadership for the management of Production assets, influencing the whole of life asset management needs to ensure they operate to the specified standard of reliability and availability, and meet the ongoing asset management needs of the Bondi Production Hub. The role will provide delivery support across a range of asset upgrade projects. The Hub Reliability Engineer has a key role as part of the Bondi Hub’s leadership team and will involve significant liaison with other key business stakeholders to ensure the Hub’s operational effectiveness, project delivery, and to meet safety standard compliance. 

You will:

  • Lead and support the Production Hub Manager and Delivery Team Leader (the “ROM’ team) in the 5 Year Investment Planning process.
  • Lead the production of an annual Asset Plan for the Hub.
  • Drive continuous improvement in asset management, especially in planned and corrective maintenance (including major periodic maintenance).
  • Ensure the application of the Maintenance, Major Periodic Maintenance Process, and decision frameworks processes, ensuring they are consistently applied across the Hub.
  • Contribute to Maintenance Excellence Standards and Corporate Maintenance and Asset Management strategies.

This is a permanent role based in Bondi with site attendance required. Travel to Sydney Water offices in Potts Hill and Parramatta required on occasions.

Department Overview: Sydney Water’s Engineering and Technical Support group provides technical expertise, design and engineering services to the business. The group focuses on the management and delivery of:

  • modelling and asset analytics
  • concept designs
  • asset data management 
  • specialist engineering expertise
  • environment and heritage planning
  • implementation of asset information


Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (preferably Mechanical, Electrical or similar) and/or equivalent experience in operations, maintenance/renewals or treatment/quality aspects of water systems.
  • Minimum of 6 years’ recent experience with complex asset management applicable to water/wastewater treatment or similar and/ or related engineering field.
  • Advanced experience using Maximo, or equivalent CMMS experience.
  • Demonstrated reliability centred maintenance, including production of risk-based maintenance strategies and use of reliability tools such as FMECA.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including experience mentoring team members and proven ability to influence key business stakeholders to meet positive business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing business case for asset renewals & major periodic maintenance.
  • Risk based asset assurance framework (CCP, Statutory and High CoF asset Maintenance)
  • Process resilience workshops based on RBD block diagrams, focus on critical spares management.
