What will you be doing?

Lead commercial projects and Partnerships to develop, foster and grow engagement and income generating relationships.

Your role will involve:

  • Understand Sydney Water’s corporate strategy and demonstrate Sydney Water values and behaviours in order to contribute to a positive and productive working environment.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the Business Development Group vision and objectives and understand your contribution to achieve these.
  • Participate in team development, planning and co-ordination activities to enable the team to work effectively together.
  • Setup new commercial projects and Partnerships in such a way that maximises the potential value for Sydney Water and is aligned to strategic objectives.
  • Manage the development, partnership valuation and financial modelling, negotiation strategy and delivery of commercial projects and Partnerships, commercialisation of new product lines (together with the Innovation and Product team) to maximise value and minimise risk for Sydney Water.
  • Identify and facilitate improvement opportunities to deliver better commercial outcomes for Sydney Water.
  • Develop appropriate commercial strategy for specific opportunity with sufficient robustness to address potential risk and uncertainty during idea development phase.
  • Ability to engage effectively with the wider business on complex commercial issues including engaging with stakeholders without strong commercial background.
  • Develop positive relationships with partners, stakeholders and customers while also being able to respectfully challenge thinking and decisions.

Department Overview:

The Commercial Manager will join the Commercial and Corporate Development Team (C&CD) which sits within the broader Business Development function. The C&CD Team partners with internal and external stakeholders including government organisations, major infrastructure developers, local business and the private sector to develop strategic opportunities and create commercial value through major infrastructure projects and commercial partnering initiatives.

Who are we looking for?

  • Ability to engage collaboratively with all stakeholders and influence key decision makers across the organisation including senior stakeholder management to achieve significant results and outcomes.
  • Keeps up to date with those external factors impacting on a large utility provider’s ability to deliver organisational outcomes e.g. political, economical, regulatory and commercial; anticipates and communicates potential impacts of these on internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated program and project management experience inclusive of high value complex projects / program of works.
  • Demonstrated experience forming and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Understanding of the deal transaction processes, due diligence, setting negotiation strategy, project valuation, cash flow modelling and hypothesis testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to breakdown complex problems and apply strategic thinking to develop options / fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Approximately collective 8-12 years demonstrable track record of success in either Commercial functions of a large complex organisation, Infrastructure Advisory teams of Big 4 or investment banks or Corporate Advisory firms.
  • Strong commercial background with experience in identifying business opportunities, development of commercial strategy, and negotiating commercial arrangements.
