Job Summary

We are currently seeking to recruit Tyre Fitter to join our highly dynamic workforce within our Simberi Operations on Simberi Island in New Ireland Province of PNG.

The Role

The Tyre Fitter reports to the Mobile Maintenance Supervisor To provide routine tyre and rim maintenance and repairs on all site rubber tyre equipment including but not limited to haul trucks, loaders, graders cranes, forklifts, trailers, LV’s and small ancillary equipment.

This is a FIFO position preferably candidates from Kavieng & Rabaul with a 15:13 roster. Point of Hire available: Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Tabar Islands Group, Alotau, Buka, Goroka, Hoskins, Madang, Popondetta and Wapenamanda.

Role Accountabilities

Functional Planning/Scheduling 

  • Knowledge and awareness of OTR /LV tyre standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge and awareness of OTR/LV tyre fitting practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge and awareness of OTR/LV jacking practices and procedures.
  • Accredited OEM tyre fitting training course or industry equivalent.
  • Perform routine tyre maintenance on equipment to ensure it is in good working order.
  • Assemble new/used tyres and rims to OEM tyre and rim standards.
  • Maintain inventory of tyre stock and associated parts and materials.
  • Forklift/IT operating ticket.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working order for completing of maintenance work.
  • Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly.
  • Ability to work alone or in a team environment.
  • Perform ad hoc duties as assigned by the Immediate Manager that relate to the role.
  • Take responsibility for your own safety and that of others, including recording and reporting any undesired events, unsafe practices or near misses and complying with OH&S policies and practices.
  • Comply with established environmentally sustainable measures to not adversely impact on the natural fauna, flora, freshwater resources, and marine life within the bound of Simberi Island.

Scheduling accountabilities

  • Help schedule routine tyre maintenance to ensure equipment and machinery is in good working order and compliant with site requirements.

People Management/Supervision

  • Work with and develop the community through the support of Company initiatives.
  • Effectively communicate with Immediate Manager to relay any issues relating to role that may impact on efficiency.
  • Take responsibility for managing own time and workload to ensure actions and maintenance is completed.

 Qualifications, Skills, and Experience required:

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • At least 5 years relevant experience
  • Experience supervising a small team.
  • PNG Drivers licence (unencumbered)
  • Strong ability to work effectively within a team and work to tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, including communicating with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
