The Role

As a Legal Counsel / Employee Relations Specialist, you’ll:

  • Partner directly with HR teams, business leaders and clients across Australia.
  • Advise on the full range of employment and safety law matters - from complex terminations and investigations to compliance, restructures and workplace disputes.
  • Deliver practical, commercial and people-focused advice that helps clients make confident decisions.
  • Support the growth of our employee relations function - designing and implementing best-practice frameworks, conducting investigations and complaint management procedures, training and proactive risk management strategies.
  • Work in a true in-house style environment with the support, tools and flexibility to do your best work.

This role can be performed remotely or from any of our offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth or Newcastle or a combination of both.

About You

You’ll thrive here if you:

  • Have at least 2+ years post-admission experience in employment and/or safety law (private practice and/or in-house).
  • Have experience in or a strong interest in employee relations.
  • Are comfortable working with corporate clients and senior stakeholders, providing decisive, solutions-focused advice.
  • Are pragmatic, commercial and adaptable - you get things done without overcomplicating them.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Want to be part of a forward-thinking business where flexibility and innovation aren’t just buzzwords.

What’s in It for You

  • Interesting, high-quality work across all areas of workplace law and employee relations.
  • Mentorship from senior practitioners who genuinely care about your development.
  • The freedom to choose how, where and when you work.
  • Freedom from the grind of billable hours targets.
  • Access to the wider HPX Group network, including working alongside Hamilton Locke, Australia’s fastest-growing law firm.
  • Regular training, social events, and team retreats.
  • An extra week’s personal development leave, plus full-day birthday leave.
  • A supportive, collaborative and fun culture that puts people experience (PX) first.
