About us

Source Legal is an exciting, rapidly growing corporate business offering legal, HR, compliance and governance services to clients across Australia. Our unique model enables our legal professionals to work with a variety of clients and sectors in an in-house capacity.

Source is an award-winning professional services firm that provides in-house style legal services to businesses, essentially operating as an outsourced legal department for our clients. We've broken the mould on what providing legal services can look like.

Source blends the best elements of private practice and in-house environments, offering varied and engaging work alongside genuine flexibility—choose how, where and when you work.

At Source, we are entirely values-driven. We never bill by the hour and do not require our lawyers to record their time. Our focus is on the client experience and providing outstanding legal support.

The role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel in Australia to lead practical, in-house-style advice across technology transactions, data, privacy, cybersecurity and AI—without billable-hour targets.

Working autonomously, you will lead client engagements and complex matters, set strategy, manage risk and deliver commercially focused advice. You will act as a trusted senior adviser, mentor colleagues and help grow the technology practice through business development, thought leadership and new AI-related offerings. Your work will include technology and AI agreements and advice on AI governance, privacy, cybersecurity and regulatory risk.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Approximately 7–10 years’ post-admission experience in private practice, in-house or both.
  • Strong experience in complex technology agreements, including SaaS, cloud, licensing, procurement, outsourcing and data arrangements.
  • A genuine interest in AI, including contracting, governance, privacy, cybersecurity and regulatory risk.
  • The judgement and commercial skills to lead matters independently, influence stakeholders and mentor colleagues.
  • A drive to grow the technology practice through client relationships, new opportunities and AI-related offerings.
  • Australian admission, a current or eligible practising certificate, and full Australian working rights.

What’s in it for you

  • Be mentored in a supportive environment, with access to quality work, great clients and professional development opportunities
  • A fun, collaborative and high-performing team environment with regular social events, training days and team retreats
  • Be at the forefront of developing new ways of providing legal services
  • Interesting and varied work across many different industries
  • No time recording or billing
  • Choose how, where and when you work
  • Birthday leave
