Green by Nature is growing our Auckland Toru team, and we’re looking for a Community Liaison Officer who’s passionate about people, place, and creating better outdoor spaces for everyone. In this role, you’ll build strong relationships with local boards, mana whenua, and community groups, helping ensure our work reflects what matters most to the communities we serve. You’ll be the friendly, trusted connection between our operational teams and the public; supporting engagement, resolving issues, and championing community priorities across Rodney, Henderson Massey and Waitākere.
You’ll thrive here if you’re a natural communicator, calm under pressure, culturally aware, and confident in front of a wide range of stakeholders. From supporting volunteer groups to navigating sensitive conversations, you’ll play a key role in strengthening how Green by Nature partners with the people who use and value Auckland’s open spaces.
What you’ll be doing:
- Leading day-to-day community engagement and acting as the public-facing representative for our Toru contract
- Building strong relationships with Auckland Council teams, community organisations, schools, volunteer groups and mana whenua
- Helping shape operational decisions by bringing community perspectives into planning and project work
- Supporting kaupapa Māori and environmental initiatives, and promoting sustainable practices across all community activities
- Coordinating volunteer support, ensuring safe, positive and well-resourced community events
- Managing community enquiries and complaints with professionalism, empathy and clear communication
- Providing reporting, insights and recommendations that help lift performance and strengthen community trust
What you’ll bring:
- 3–5 years’ experience in community engagement, local government, environmental/community organisations or a related field
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to connect with diverse audiences
- Experience working with youth, mana whenua and Māori communities (highly valued)
- Strong relationship management, conflict resolution and de-escalation skills
- A warm, approachable style and a genuine passion for community outcomes
- Confidence working outdoors and visiting sites as part of engagement activity
- Highly organised, proactive and values-driven
- Proficiency in spoken and written Te Reo Maori would be preferred
What's on offer:
Along with working within a company that has been an industry leader for more than 30 years, you will receive:
- A performance-based salary that is reviewed annually
- Annual $300 wellness benefit (after qualifying period) and work phone permitted for personal use
- The opportunity to work in a role that gives back to the community
- Internal and external learning and development opportunities with the ability to progress your career
At Green by Nature, we live our values every day: Accountability, Bravery, and Care. If you’re motivated by meaningful community work and want to help shape healthier, safer, more vibrant public spaces across Tāmaki Makaurau, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now and help us grow greener, stronger communities - together.
Please note, in accordance with our company Drug & Alcohol Policy, the successful applicants will be required to undergo and pass a pre-employment drug test.
