Network Coordination Manager

New Plymouth

We have a vacancy in our Network Operations Centre Control Room based in New Plymouth, Taranaki.

Reporting to the Network Operations Manager, this role is responsible for managing the Network Coordination Team who manage the real-time operation and access to Powerco’s HV and LV electricity distribution networks (on a 24 / 7 shift basis).

This role involves the day-to-day coordination and monitoring of field activities in response to planned network outages, fault restoration and emergencies (Including after-hours emergencies for our gas network).

Key components of the Network Coordination Manager role include:

  • Providing effective support and leadership to the team members, build and foster a positive team environment
  • Lead the network coordination team through change management processes
  • Ensuring the day to day application of (and adherence to) Powerco’s network operating policies and procedures in conjunction with the Network Coordination Team Leader
  • Coordination and preparation of responses to network incidents
  • Coordinating and supporting the Network Coordination team in the event of major network, safety or extreme weather events
  • Forging and maintaining strong working relationships with key network stakeholders both internal and external including Transpower, major contractors and other service providers
  • Identifying and implementing improvements to network operating policy, procedures and systems
  • Provide on call after hours escalation support to the team on a rostered basis as required

To successfully fill this role you will need:

  • BE, NZCE or equivalent
  • Sound knowledge of electrical substations and high voltage electricity networks
  • Sound understanding of isolation and access procedures and operating practices
  • An understanding of gas and electricity fault response processes
  • Knowledge of Protection Systems, SCADA and communication systems
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong real-time analytical and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of risk management concepts
  • A high degree of computer literacy
