About the Role
Pacific National is seeking a highly analytical and forward‑thinking Locomotive Asset Planner to lead the planning and optimisation of asset programs across our locomotive fleet.
With a focus on a 12–36 month planning horizon, this role ensures asset strategies, maintenance programs and capital initiatives are aligned to operational requirements, reliability targets and business priorities. You will play a key role in identifying, prioritising and supporting delivery of asset-related initiatives.
This role combines maintenance/asset planning with strong data and reporting capability, using insights to support decision-making and improve long-term outcomes across the business.
What you’ll be doing
- Develop and maintain a rolling 12–36 month asset plan for the locomotive fleet.
- Identify and plan major maintenance programs, overhauls, upgrades and life-extension initiatives.
- Build and develop business cases to support capital and operational expenditure.
- Prioritise projects based on risk, cost–benefit analysis and strategic alignment.
- Maintain visibility across the locomotive asset portfolio, including dependencies and risks.
- Work closely with finance teams to support budgeting, forecasting and funding approvals.
- Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and reporting to track performance and portfolio health.
- Use data and reporting to support planning decisions, prioritisation and long-term asset strategy
- Continuously improve reporting, data quality and insights to enhance planning effectiveness
- Collaborate with maintenance, operations, engineering and supply chain teams to align plans
What you’ll bring
- Experience in asset planning, maintenance planning or asset management within rail or heavy industry
- Proven experience working with Power BI dashboards to support operational or asset-related decision-making
- Strong ability to interpret data and translate it into practical insights for planning and performance improvement
- Experience working with asset management systems (e.g. Maximo or similar)
- Confidence working across multiple data sources to support planning outcomes
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to communicate insights clearly
- High attention to detail and focus on data accuracy and governance
Experience in locomotive maintenance or asset-intensive environments is highly regarded.
