ACCOUNTANT

The Accountant within the Finance Department is an integral role in the effective financial management of Mansfield District Hospital. This role provides interdepartmental advice and support to assist with the management and control of the numerous funding streams and finance related matters across MDH. This role will liaise externally with our Salary Packaging provider and Goulburn Valley Health Payroll Department.

This role reports to the Director of Finance and Corporate Services/ Chief Finance Officer.

The key responsibilities of our Accountant include:

  • maintaining accurate financial records
  • preparing and uploading end of month accounting entries and adjustments, as part of end of month reporting process
  • monthly reconciliations of all balance sheets and subsidiary ledgers;
  • maintaining the asset register for the purposes of depreciation, asset management and capital planning in accordance with legislation, accountability frameworks and the organisation’s objectives;
  • be a first point of contact for Heads of Departments regarding finances and due process, and provide timely response to requests for finance information to support the effective management and control of department financial matters;
  • liaising with contracted Payroll Department to assist with the preparation and uploading of fortnightly payroll;
  • participating in the annual internal and external auditing processes ensuring that appropriate systems are in place and maintained providing documented evidence and calculations are available for all audit requirements;
  • implementing controls and systems to ensure best Financial practice is followed;
  • undertaking the checking, processing and filing of duly authorised invoices as per Chart of Accounts and the Instrument of Delegation.

Essential:

  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting/Finance
  • Demonstrated experience operating within accounting principles, standards and professional guidelines;
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competency in utilising computer-based applications, knowledge of Oracle would be an advantage;
  • Proven organisational and time management skills with ability to work to tight timelines and prioritise competing work demands;
  • Demonstrated ability to act independently and also as an effective team member;
  • Demonstrated commitment to the organisation’s values.
