Lycopodium Africa is recruiting for a Lead Procurement Officer to join our growing team based in Cape Town.
Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the Lead Procurement Officer will be responsible to ensure purchasing of the correct goods and services of the required specification at the most cost-effective total price, be delivered to the correct destination within the required delivery time. Ensure clients and PSG (Project Services) internal customers are given the highest service level obtainable making the most efficient use of the resources.
The tasks you'll perform
- Perform all dealings with clients, suppliers, manufacturers and freight company personnel professionally, ethically and efficiently, to ensure the highest possible service levels.
- Communicate openly, professionally, ethically and efficiently always with all internal customers to ensure that the highest customer service level is achieved.
- Interface with:
- Projects for schedule requirements and budget considerations,
- Engineering / Process Engineering teams for technical requirements.
- Implement and monitor procurement schedule(s) in accordance with the overall delivery schedule.
- Notify Procurement & Logistics Manager and relevant Project Management staff immediately of any risks to committed delivery date(s).
- Carry out commercial analysis and evaluation of quotations to enable the correct supplier choice to be made.
- Responsible for the integrity of information maintained within the group and the timely provision of all relevant procurement and expediting reporting.
The expertise you'll bring
- Recognised tertiary qualification, preferably in Supply Chain Management
- 15+ years' proven experience in a senior procurement role, preferably within the mining, engineering or major projects sectors
- South African Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Cape Town based
- Strong technical aptitude, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Sound knowledge of international and local purchasing, tendering, contract law, and freight regulations and practices
- Ability to work independently while consistently delivering high-quality results within budget and schedule constraints
- Demonstrated experience with computerised purchasing and logistics systems
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, including clients, contractors, vendors, and colleagues
- Strong negotiation skills
- Skilled in producing accurate and professional documentation and reports
