Lycopodium is currently recruiting for a Lead Designer to join our growing Drafting & Design team in Mississauga, Ontario.
Reporting to the Chief Designer the Lead Designer will producing high quality, cost effective, detail 3D designs and general arrangement drawings. The designer will work under the supervision of the Principal Designer, Lead Discipline Design Engineer or the Project Lead Engineer.
The tasks you'll perform
Procedures
- Ensure that all CAD files you produce strictly comply with the necessary Lycopodium and project CAD procedures.
- Comply with all published company procedures and instructions.
Quality Control
- Follow and implement all relevant Lycopodium standards and procedures and to ensure compliance with these by persons under supervision.
- Produce Lycopodium and industry standard 3D models from the design engineer’s calculations and sketches with minimal supervision.
- Ensure drawings comply with all relevant International Standards.
- Ensure the correct use of project defined standard design details and notes are used in the production of project design drawings.
Document Preparation
- Produce Lycopodium and industry standard 3D models from the design engineer’s calculations and sketches.
- Review of vendor drawings and design data for use in Design Drawings.
- Ensure project design data within your area of work is disseminated to other project team members in an efficient and timely manner.
- Check complex design drawings as required
Resource Management
- Supervise junior personnel as directed by the Principal Designer.
Continuous Improvement
- Demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement of design and safety.
Budget and Schedule Management
- In conjunction with the design team meeting project budget and schedule for drawings.
The expertise you'll bring
- Extensive experience in process plant design, with 10+ years in a relevant discipline and a strong technical foundation across mineral processing technologies and commodities.
- Diploma in Engineering Design Drafting (or equivalent) with a broad and deep minerals processing engineering knowledge base.
- Advanced proficiency in Bentley OpenBuildings Designer (OBD) and Bentley 3D MicroStation, with working experience using ProjectWise for online document control.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high‑quality designs and solutions to agreed milestone dates, budgets, and professional standards.
- Proven capability to manage and lead drafting teams, achieving man‑hour budgets and milestone deliverables.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and relevant proprietary engineering software packages.
- Excellent English communication and report‑writing skills, with strong interpersonal skills and a practical, team‑focused approach to design problem‑solving.
- Strong commitment to collaboration, professionalism, and continued professional development.

The expected salary range for this role is $125,000 to $165,000. This range is based on the role’s job family and level and reflects a good faith estimate for the role at the time of posting. Your final offer will depend on factors such as market conditions, internal equity and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role. We believe in fair, competitive pay that reflects the value you bring to the team.
