As a result of a growing pipeline of work, Lycopodium is seeking a Lead Process Engineer to join our expanding team in Melbourne.
Reporting to the Manager of Technical and Process, this position will help drive a number of leading-edge projects across the chemical, pharmaceutical, minerals, manufacturing and related sectors, working with a highly skilled team of technical experts at the forefront of the process engineering space. The successful candidate will be an experienced professional with a strong track record within the chemical, process, and manufacturing sectors.
The tasks you'll perform
- Provide proficient and accurate process design input into studies and detailed design. Developing designs in accordance with process, client and regulatory standards.
- Ensure all process deliverables are peer checked and meet or exceed the quality standards of ISO9001.
- Assist with the peer review of process deliverables when requested by the Manager of Technical and Process.
- Maintain an understanding of the latest developments to Industry and Project specific codes, standards and related engineering matters, sharing with the wider process team.
- Work in conjunction with a range of internal and external stakeholders to meet project design criteria and deliverables.
- Participate in the commissioning of process plants in locations within Australia or in other countries where Lycopodium operates as required from time to time.
- Driving multiple tasks and prioritising where necessary to achieve agreed deliverables to a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
- Contribute to engineers-in-training professional development by providing consistent mentoring and identify avenues of development.
The expertise you'll bring
- University Degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy or equivalent qualification.
- 15+ years post graduate experience, with a minimum of 5 years relevant Australian experience in the chemical, pharmaceutical, manufacturing or related industries.
- Proven capability to lead and coordinate engineering and project delivery teams, ensuring alignment across disciplines to meet scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
- Hands-on involvement in end-to-end engineering design within a project delivery environment, including concept development, detailed design, documentation, and integration across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Experience designing and working with systems involving hazardous materials, including corrosive, flammable, toxic, and other dangerous goods, with a strong understanding of relevant storage, handling, segregation and compliance requirements.
- Ability to facilitate and contribute to structured risk assessment workshops such as HAZOP, LOPA, and SIL studies, with a strong understanding of process safety principles and regulatory expectations.
- Strong ability to take a holistic view of projects, understanding how engineering decisions impact overall project outcomes, including cost, schedule, risk, operability, and long-term performance.
