Lycopodium is currently recruiting for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Process Engineering team in Melbourne. 

Reporting to the Manager of Design the Lead Mechanical Engineer will:

  • Conduct timely reviews and provide direction of Project mechanical drawings to achieve full compliance with design intent.
  • Perform and review engineering designs, including calculations and design development.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, documents, specifications and scopes.
  • Liaise with and provide professional direction to drafting team in the preparation of drawing deliverables.
  • Develop technical documentation including scopes of work and specifications using relevant industry standards and guidelines.
  • Produce and assist with the delivery of accurate engineering lists including but not limited to: equipment, lubrication, spares, valves, pipe line and special items.
  • Provide and assist with the delivery of accurate material take-offs as and when required.
  • Evaluate tenders and provide technical recommendations for the purchase of mechanical equipment from vendors where necessary.
  • Review certified vendor documentation and disseminate the information to the appropriate personnel for interface checking.
  • Review and assist with the delivery of engineering documentation in relation to scope, quantities, cost and schedule.
  • Lead the development of Mechanical Engineering estimates for proposals through to expression of interests. 
  • Register and file all relevant engineering documentation in accordance to the Company approved procedures. 
  • Maintain an understanding of the latest developments to Industry and Project specific codes, standards and related engineering matters.
  • Contribute to engineers-in-training professional development by providing consistent mentoring and identify avenues of development.

The expertise you'll bring

  • Experience in process and industrial projects, with a strong foundation in the design and review of mechanical systems including pressure vessels, tanks, pumps, piping networks and related equipment.
  • University Degree in Mechanical Engineering or the equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • 10+ years post-graduate experience working within the industrial processes industry or on similar capital projects.
  •  High attention to detail and exceptional knowledge of mechanical process optimisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve consistently high standards within both budgetary and schedule constraints.
  • Proficient understanding of business acumen with the ability to adapt to different business environments.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritise to a high standard of accuracy and professionalism.
  • The successful candidate must hold current registration on the National Engineering Register (NER) and be a Registered Professional Engineer in Victoria (RPEV) with appropriate Victorian BLA registration.
  • Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) will be viewed favourably, though is not essential.
