Lycopodium is currently recruiting for a Commissioning Manager to join our site team in Namibia.

Reporting to the General Manager Projects the Commissioning Manager will be responsible for ensuring that commissioning activities comply with Company, Client, regulatory and contractual requirements. It is envisaged that this role can be completed on a part time basis.

In addition to the above role from time to time the incumbent will complete assignments for the General Manager Projects involving process engineering for studies and detailed design - subject to availability and the agreed scope of work. This position will also be responsible for the delivery of accurate, professional and compliant process study and design deliverables using Company approved systems and procedures to agreed schedules.

The tasks you'll perform

  • Ensure comprehensive Planning, Implementation and Management of all testing & commissioning and performance, Operator Training, to achieve handover of the Project to the Client.
  • Provide leadership and technical direction to project staff, design consultants, Subcontractors, Project Managers, Technology Vendors and blue collar workforce to ensure testing, pre commissioning & commissioning is undertaken to safety and quality standards.
  • Define and lead the Projects Testing & Commissioning strategy.
  • Prepare, implement, and revise the Testing & Commissioning Management Plan in compliance with the Contract requirements and with the Testing & Commissioning strategy, as required.
  • Review the Testing & Commissioning Management Plans when prepared by sub-contractors or suppliers.
  • Develop required commissioning documentation (organisation, staffing, program, schedules, templates, test procedures) in accordance with project requirements.
  • Review required commissioning and handover documentation (organisation, staffing, program, schedules, templates, test procedures) when falling in the scope of the subcontractors/vendors.
  • Ensure all deliverables are peer checked and meet or exceed the quality standards of ISO9001.
  • Strive to continuously maintain an up to date knowledge of relevant processes, designs and operating strategies.
  • Ensure all relevant stakeholders are notified immediately of any risk or changes to deliverables.
  • Work in conjunction with a range of internal and external stakeholders to meet project design criteria and deliverables.
  • Develop and contribute to the delivery of improvement initiatives that support business priorities for continuous improvement.
  • Register and file all relevant documentation in accordance to the Company approved procedures.
  • Proactively support other team members as required to ensure Project deliverables are of a high standard and produced in a timely manner.
  • Travel to site on an agreed rostered rotation bases for the duration of commissioning activities.
  • Travel on an ad-hoc basis to suit the needs of the business and its operations.

The expertise you'll bring

  • A degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 15 years’ postgraduate experience in a relevant position.
  • Minimum 15 years’ practical experience working in construction/commissioning and/or completions.

  • High attention to detail and exceptional knowledge of process design.
  • Demonstrate a strict practice of confidentiality, personal responsibility and discretion.
  • Detailed knowledge of safety requirements, tagging and isolation procedures and emergency actions for work at process plants.
