LPN Dry Mining is recruiting for an DMU Control Room Operator to join our project team in Oranjemund, Namibia
The DMU Control Room Operator is responsible for the remote operation, monitoring, and control of the Dry Mining Unit (DMU) and its associated equipment via a SCADA system.
The role ensures the DMU operates safely, efficiently, and within production targets by observing process parameters, responding to alarms, coordinating field operators, and maintaining optimal slurry feed to the Hopper.
The tasks you'll perform
- Operate and monitor the Dry Mining Unit (DMU) through the SCADA interface, ensuring smooth and continuous material feed to the process plant.
- Start up, operate, adjust, and shut down process components remotely, including the dozer trap feed system, hopper, conveyors, slurry pump systems, screens, and transfer lines.
- Monitor key process indicators such as feed rate, hopper levels, slurry density, pump discharge pressure, and motor loads to maintain consistent feed within defined parameters.
- Analyze live SCADA trends to optimize DMU performance, identify bottlenecks, and minimize downtime.
- Record and report operating parameters, process deviations, and downtime events to the DMU Supervisor, assisting in troubleshooting and process improvement.
- Operate the DMU in compliance with safety and environmental standards, following isolation, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO), and emergency shutdown (ESD) procedures.
- Maintain clear communication with field operators, dozer operators, and maintenance teams, reporting any operational issues, alarms, or abnormal equipment behavior.
- Maintain accurate control room logs, hourly production data, and prepare shift summary reports for review by the Shift Supervisor and Operations Superintendent.
- Liaise with maintenance personnel during breakdowns or planned maintenance to safely isolate and reinstate equipment.
- Provide feedback to process control and engineering teams on SCADA performance and required system improvements.
The expertise you'll bring
- Be a Namibian citizen
- Diploma in Process Plant Operations, (Electrical/Instrumentation, Mechanical/Mining Engineering, or Metallurgy.)
- Training in SCADA systems, process control, or automation
- Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in a mining or processing plant control room environment.
- Proven experience operating Dry Mining Units (DMU), slurry transfer systems, or fixed plant equipment.
- Proficiency in SCADA or DCS operations with sound knowledge of slurry pumping, material flow, and feed systems.
- Understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems used in mining operations.
- Strong diagnostic, analytical, and troubleshooting ability.
- Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) for reporting and Microsoft Office
- Willingness to work rotational shifts and adapt to changing operational requirements.
