Lycopodium is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Lead Field Engineer to join our dynamic, growing team in Namibia, the successful candidate will manage and direct all Field Engineering services initiatives and operations associated with quality, constructability, and design clashes or omissions to ensure project scope and quality deliverables are met.
The tasks you'll perform
- Oversees the field site construction and maintenance to ensure that they are up to a high standard in line with the Company, Client, regulatory and contractual requirements.
- Manage all members of the Field Engineering team in compliance with applicable project-specific requirements and current industry work codes and standards.
- Manage any critical construction and pre-commissioning activities.
- Liaise with the contracts team as necessary.
- Perform regular field inspections, servicing, testing and QA/QC activities.
- Coordinate with and assist as required by the Commissioning Team with troubleshooting, pre-operations testing and handover of subsystems and operating systems.
- Chair field engineering staff meetings and provide guidance and goals for each person for the coming week and beyond.
- Communicate immediately (or as described in the applicable project plan) with the Site Manager on matters that might affect the project goals.
- Contribute to weekly Client meetings and provide updates and feedback with regards to field-related activities.
- Assist the relevant Manager with providing input required for the compilation and submission of the project progress report monthly or as required by the contract.
- Encourage and build a positive workplace culture and team environment.
- Regular communication with the relevant Manager and provide weekly reports, updates and feedback with regards to the field related activities.
- Assist as required with the recruitment of the field engineering team.
- Ensure the proper utilisation of people, material, machinery and process to meet the client requirements within the timelines and budget.
- Advise the relevant Manager immediately of any safety or environmental, community or industrial relations incidents as per approved Company policy and procedures.
- Govern the Field Engineering team to ensure compliance with Company and Client policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Adhere to Company’s Policy’s and obtain the appropriate internal approvals prior to making any contractual commitments.
- Maintain all inventory files and official paper works related to field engineering activities.
- Register and file all relevant documentation in accordance with the Company approved procedures.
- Develop and contribute to the delivery of improvement initiatives within the construction team, which support the business’ continuous improvement.
- Contribute to junior team members’ professional development by providing consistent mentoring and identifying development avenues.
- Travel on an ad-hoc basis to suit the needs of the business and its operations.
The expertise you'll bring
- Technical Certificate/Tertiary Education Qualification, Degree or Diploma in Construction Management/Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum of 10+ years in various aspects of Engineering in mineral processing and or related industries.
- Strong knowledge and demonstrable experience in all aspects of field construction operations and management.
- Strong background in field management with a broad multidisciplinary base in mineral processing plant/infrastructure construction.
- Strong background, training and awareness of statutory and industry standards in OHSE, IR and HR.
- Strong knowledge of contract management and controls.
- High attention to detail.
- Managerial-leadership ability.
- Ability to coordinate multiple teams and trades.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Build and sustain positive relationships with all stakeholders, including clients, vendors and co-workers.
- Ability to work with people at all levels within an organisation and external providers.
