The Telecommunications Specialist plays a critical role in the design, delivery, and management of Endeavour Energy’s telecommunications network services, ensuring they are secure, highly available, and aligned with business objectives.
This position primarily focuses on Nokia IP/MPLS-based networks and various telecommunication solutions. Experience with C37.94 tele-protection systems is desirable but not essential.
Key Responsibilities
Operational & Technical
- Design, configure, deploy, and manage tele-protection multiplexer C37.94 systems interfacing with internal and external protection relays for 132kV systems.
- Collaborate with protection teams and stakeholders, establishing operating agreements as required.
- Design, implement, and manage OT and IT telecommunications systems, including Nokia IP/MPLS, Optical Fibre, DWDM, CWDM, Microwave, and Radio networks.
- Oversee day-to-day network operations, including configuration, monitoring, incident and problem management, cyber-security compliance, software patching, and change management.
- Develop, review, and maintain operational standards and processes.
- Guide, train, and mentor technical and non-technical peers.
- Analyse network performance and implement improvements; develop and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
Strategy & Planning
- Develop telecommunications policies, standards, and deployment strategies to ensure reliability, safety, and efficiency.
- Lead network migration projects and work with vendors and internal teams to establish and enhance capabilities.
- Conduct research on emerging technologies to inform future solutions.
- Manage asset lifecycles, reviewing equipment condition and planning refurbishment or replacement as required.
To be successful in this role you will need
- Significant demonstrated experience in a similar role within the Energy, Electrical, Utilities, or Telecommunications industries.
- Knowledge of industry best practice in Tele-protection, IP/MPLS, LAN/WAN architecture, and associated administration practices.
- Knowledge of IP/MPLS and Telecommunications Network Security Architectures, with extensive experience in designing, implementing, monitoring, and managing secure networks.
- Familiarity with networking protocols such as C37.94, RSTP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, 802.1x, and multi-protocol BGP.
- Experience in network patching and management of copper, multi-mode, and single-mode systems and associated hardware.
- Ability to maintain, markup, and create design documentation and records.
- Ability to retrieve and build asset data reports suitable for internal and external audits.
- Demonstrated experience with telecommunications administration, automation tools, and scripting languages for maintenance, backup, and recovery of network devices.
- Experience providing support for critical real-time systems.
- Knowledge of ISA/IEC 62443, ISO 27001, AESCSF SP2, SOCI, NER, and AEMO standards.
- Well-developed skills and experience working with NOKIA, Cisco, Virtual, or equivalent carrier-grade network products.
- Flexible approach to working hours and after-hours commitments.
Qualifications, Certifications & Licenses
Essential
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of industry experience in a utility environment.
- Industry qualifications, including Nokia Network Routing Specialist II (NRS II).
- Valid Australian Driver's Licence.
Desirable
- Eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia.
- Relevant security qualifications, such as CISSP or CEH.
- Nokia 3RP/SRA Certification.
- Cisco CCNP or Cisco CCIE.
- Workcover Induction for Construction Work – General Course.
- High level of computer literacy.
