The Department

Caulfield Pain Management and Research Centre is an ambulatory service providing specialist assessment and treatment for adults with chronic non-cancer related pain.

The Centre aims to assist patients to reduce the impact of persistent pain by optimising pain treatments, improving function and promoting self-management. This is achieved by expert assessment, patient education and access to a number of treatment modalities. There is a focus on the Cognitive Behavioural education and restoration of function for management of pain with a philosophy of teaching self-management strategies. The centre undertakes research on outcomes of pain treatments, psychosocial aspects of chronic pain, pain and ageing and novel therapies for pain. The Centre also has close links with The Alfred Hospital Acute Pain Service (in Anaesthesia) as well as various specialist services treating chronic pain conditions.

The Role

The overall objective of the position is to provide support and assistance to allied health clinicians who provide treatment to clients with chronic pain conditions.

Primary duties will include supporting research/data handling and processing of research questionnaires within the centre, maintaining administrative processes to ensure the client’s journey from referral to discharge is seamless and objectively documented.

There may be opportunities to providing therapy support services to individuals as directed by the treating therapists.

Duties

  • Collecting , managing, processing and submitting patient specific data collection questionnaires electronically /hardcopy.
  • Making phone call consultations to clarify data/medications and creating SMS reminders to patients.
  • Monitoring and reporting changes in the patient’s health status to the treating therapist/ manager
  • Sourcing, collating, maintaining and updating resources required for data collection.
  • Documenting accurately in the patient’s medical history as directed by the treating Therapist/Manager, and in accordance with departmental protocols.
  • Demonstrating a capacity to work flexibly and independently and to provide feedback to supervisor regarding task completion.
  • Implementing individual/group therapies to patients, either independently or in teams, as directed by the treating Therapist.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Completion of Certificate IV (Allied Health Assistance) from a registered training organisation, OR
  • Recognised equivalent qualification (as determined by the line manager):
  • Higher qualification in a relevant health science discipline at Diploma or Associate Diploma level
  • Certificate level qualification in a relevant health-related field
  • Eligibility for registration as a Registered Nurse - Division 2
  • Overseas-trained Allied Health practitioner with a qualification at Diploma level or higher
  • Allied Health undergraduate student (in a relevant health science discipline) having successfully completed one year of study at minimum
  • Current Victorian Driver’s License (unrestricted)
