The Department

Alfred Mental & Addiction Health is responsible for the operation of services which focus on people with a mental illness residing in the Inner South Eastern area of Melbourne.

The Role

The FaPMI (Families where a Parent has a Mental Illness) program aims to improve outcomes for consumers who are parents, their children, and their families by reducing the impact of parental mental illness on all family members. The program is currently operationalised through the appointment of local FaPMI Coordinators who work within Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Services (AMHWS) as well as with external agencies to improve the response and support provided to families where a parent is experiencing a mental health challenge.

Qualifications and Experience required

  • Relevant clinical qualifications in nursing, occupational therapy, social work, family therapy or psychology with registration to the professional discipline
  • Experience in, and knowledge of, the adult, child and adolescent and perinatal mental health field, family violence sector and associated health and welfare services
  • Experience in working with adults who are parents who have experienced mental illness, and their families
  • Experience in working with children and adults experiencing and/or perpetrating family violence is desirable.
