About Our Team 
The Alfred Pathology Service (APS) is key to providing integrated and timely diagnostic capabilities as part of the largest public pathology laboratory network in Victoria. 
Alfred Health supports the local community while addressing complex state-wide needs, including trauma, organ transplantation and HIV/AIDS diagnostics. APS conducts all pathology testing for multiple hospitals, offering a comprehensive range of services through five specialized units: Anatomical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology, and Human Molecular Pathology. 
APS is committed to education and professional development, providing excellent learning opportunities for students and clinicians. Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a partnership and are delivering pathology services at Western Health (WH), which includes, collection centres, branch laboratories at New Footscray Hospital and Sunshine Hospital and point-of-care services.  We are working in partnership to ensure we meet future demands and continue to provide high quality pathology services for our patients and the community across both health services. 
About the role
The Laboratory Scientist in this role will be an active member of the Core Laboratory (Clinical Chemistry, Haematology, Transfusion and limited Molecular Microbiology) across New Footscray Hospital and Sunshine Hospital laboratories. This position may also require rotations to the Prahran laboratory, especially for training and continuous professional development. They will be responsible for the processing of routine and urgent specimens according to laboratory procedures and issue pathology results across various departments of the core laboratory. The role also requires participation in a 24/7 rotating roster and an on-call roster afterhours. 
About you
  • Bachelor’s degree in science, Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Scientist) or equivalent is required.
  • Experience working in a multi-skilled laboratory i.e., Clinical Chemistry, Haematology and Transfusion Laboratory.
  • Previous experience with troubleshooting automated laboratory analysers.
  • Demonstrated verbal, written communication and organisational skills.
  • Computer proficiency and good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Class C driver’s license and willingness to travel to the various WH and Prahran sites as needed. 
  • Experience performing blood film morphology.
