The Department

Alfred Health Pharmacy is well recognised for high quality and innovative patient- focused services, education and training programmes as well as significant research output. The service operates over 4 sites within Alfred Health, and continually advocates for postgraduate learning and research interests, with supportive partnerships and expert mentors available to foster staff development.

The department also has a leading Digital Health strategy, playing a pivotal role in managing the electronic medication management system within our comprehensive electronic medical record (Cerner), with an advanced level of integration linking this to the Pharmacy Dispensing (iPharmacy) and Automated Medication Storage systems (Omnicell). This is complemented by a strong clinical presence and a Centre for Medicine Use and Safety program to achieve a considered, safe and financially responsible approach to medication management within Alfred Heath.

The Team

The Pharmaceutical Management team is responsible for the procurement, distribution and governance of medicine supply across Alfred Health. This is managed through a unique, proactive and co-ordinated approach; utilising close working relationships with external suppliers (Symbion, Baxter) to deliver medications to both Pharmacy and Pharmacy related medication imprest areas across the organisation. 

The team works closely with our Digital Health, Medication Safety and Formulary programs to ensure continued availability of the most up to date treatments in a cost-effective manner. This is a continually evolving portfolio that looks to innovative approaches in improving and refining how its service can be provided, while assisting to deliver on department and organisation wide strategic goals. 

The Role

We are seeking an experienced pharmacy technician or store person looking to make the transition into a supervisory/leadership role in a dynamic hospital environment as a Senior Distribution Officer. Working under the direction of the Pharmacy Distribution Manager, you will work as part of a leadership team of three Distribution Officers to supervise and co-ordinate the day to day running of the pharmacy distributions team, overseeing inbound and outbound services, imprest supply, and dispensary stock management. You will work closely with the Procurement team to ensure timely access to medications and cost effective stock management across all Alfred Health Campuses.

Qualifications & Experience required

  • Experience in a hospital pharmacy department or supply department with experience in stock management, purchasing and inventory control (or equivalent)
  • Experience supervising or training staff essential, experience in a leadership or team management role highly desirable
  • Certificate III or IV in Health (Hospital Pharmacy Technician), Hospital Services, Supply Chain Logistics or equivalent (including tertiary qualification) highly desirable
