The Department

 

The Surgical Services program delivers the majority of surgical services across all Alfred Health sites. The program consists of surgical units, anaesthesia and perioperative medicine, operating suite service, two elective surgical inpatient wards, a medical day unit, day of surgery admissions, day surgery and endoscopy service. The program also oversees the elective surgery waiting list, medical elective waiting list and outpatient service which averages over 200,000 attendances per year.

The position Summary

The position of Trauma Billing Clerk is responsible for completing all aspects of the billing and collection processes for the Trauma Service by:

  • Ensuring compliance with Hospital Policy on Private and Compensable Patients
  • Policy compliance audits of correct financial classifications
  • Displaying a high level of customer service and communication skills
  • Regular billing data integrity check and applying necessary corrections utilising available information in various systems and relevant billing rules.
  • Monitoring claims to Medicare & Veteran Affairs, resolving rejections, and escalating issues to the Director of Operations as required.
  • Assisting in account queries for inpatients covered by Private Health Funds and for compensable patients.
  • Liaise with the Finance Billing Team and Finance Information System Team to resolve issues
  • Completion of other billing tasks assigned by the Director of Operations

Experience and Qualifications Required

Desirable

  • Billings to Medicare or Private Health Funds, or other revenue raising activity (preferable)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrates ability to deal confidently with stakeholders at all levels
  • Problem solving ability and initiative
  • Demonstrated time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to be self-directed, motivated and work as part of a highly qualified team
  • Proven ability work under pressure, prioritise workload and meet deadlines
  • Ability to handle difficult situations and always remain professional
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement systems as well as work practices that are efficient and result in desired outcome
