Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services. On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

The Department
The Department of Infectious Diseases at The Alfred is one of the largest and most comprehensive infectious diseases clinical services in Australia. It is also an academic Department within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Central Clinical School, Monash University and is a premier centre for clinical and biomedical research and education.
The Department offers expertise in general infectious diseases, HIV/AIDS, hospital-acquired infections and antimicrobial resistance, infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship, travel-related infections, viral hepatitis, sexually-transmitted infections, and infections in immunocompromised hosts including critical care, burns, cystic fibrosis and solid organ (lung, heart and kidney) and stem cell transplant recipients. We have four active clinical units at any one time with a dedicated general infectious diseases inpatient unit, an HIV inpatient unit, a general consultative service and an immunocompromised host service. Through our Alfred Infectious Diseases Training Program we provide outstanding opportunities for advanced training in infectious diseases.
One of the premier services provided by the Department is the Victorian State-wide HIV Service which provides a comprehensive program for individuals and populations affected by or infected with HIV in Victoria. This ranges from acute care and chronic illness management, to health maintenance, prevention and health promotion. Complications of HIV and antiretroviral therapy, in addition to the myriad of co-morbidites such as cancer, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, renal impairment, viral hepatitis and liver disease, drug and alcohol related disorders, neurocognitive impairment and psychiatric illness are all managed in a multidisciplinary ambulatory care clinic.

The Role
Working closely with Alfred Infectious Diseases Program Director, this is a unique chance to:
- Oversee daily clinical operations across the Alfred Infectious Diseases wards and program
- Support and develop staff while ensuring continuity of care

We’re looking for a collaborative and committed leader with strong clinical and operational expertise, ready to take on a high-profile leadership challenge.
Skills
To be successful, you will have:
- Nursing registration with AHPRA
- A tertiary qualification in healthcare, and preferably a postgraduate qualification in health or business management
- Demonstrated experience leading large, complex health programs
- Proven success in operational and strategic planning, financial management, and service improvement
- A commitment to evidence-based care, research, and innovation
- Ability to work collaboratively and influence across diverse stakeholder groups
- Experience in managing complex organisational change
