We are seeking an occupational therapist to join our Plastics, Burns and Hand therapy team

  • Permanent position in the Victorian Adult Burns Service at The Alfred
  • Full time (80 hours per fortnight + monthly ADO) – part time applicants or flexible working arrangements are welcomed and will be considered

The Alfred Health Occupational Therapy Department operates across The Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham Hospitals, with clinical services aligned to Alfred Health's strategic goals and operational performance targets. Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, skilled and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join the Plastics, Burns and Hand Therapy Stream located at The Alfred. The role is predominantly based in the Victorian Adult Burns Service providing assessment and early intensive rehabilitation to patients on the burns ward, in intensive care and outpatients. There is also opportunity for a small outpatient or inpatient hand therapy caseload.

Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, you will provided excellent person-centred interventions related to burn and upper limb injury and contribute to interdisciplinary goal setting to achieve optimal patient care. This role will require strong communication and teamwork skills, the ability to work flexibly and to utilise your comprehensive assessment skills under the guidance and support of the senior clinician.

At a Grade 2 level, Occupational Therapists are required to display autonomy of practice, whilst also demonstrating a commitment to patient-centred care, collaborative practice and evidence-based knowledge translation. Grade 2 clinicians have an important role in leading various teaching/training and quality improvement activities across the Occupational Therapy Service, and are responsible for the supervision and mentoring of junior Occupational Therapy staff, Allied Health Assistants and/or undergraduate students. You will be well supported by an experienced Grade 3 senior Occupational Therapist including regular supervision and access to professional development opportunities.

Skills and Experience Required

  • A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in occupational therapy
  • Registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia, and eligibility for OTA membership
  • Clinical experience and knowledge of client-centred, occupational service delivery in an acute setting (clinical skills in burns management or hand therapy highly desirable)
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and modify service delivery in accordance with evidence-based practice
  • Experience working within an interdisciplinary team to provide high-quality rehabilitation
  • Experience in supervision of junior staff and students is highly desirable.
