Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services. On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.
- Full time position (80 hours per fortnight + monthly ADO)
- This position comprises of the following: permanent 0.6 EFT (48 hours per fortnight) + 2-year fixed term 0.4 EFT (32 hours per fortnight)

The Department
The Imaging Physics Team
Alfred Health Radiology & Nuclear Medicine provides medical imaging services across all modalities. Our program offers a stimulating environment where clinical and physics staff work together to achieve the best possible outcomes for our patients. The Diagnostic Imaging Medical Physics Team is a friendly, focused group supporting clinical diagnostic and theranostics medical physics and radiation safety services across Alfred Health.
Our team includes:
- Four radiology medical physicists
- Three nuclear medicine medical physicists
- One physics registrar (nuclear medicine)
- One physics administrator

- Exciting Work: Be part of the team implementing the first whole-body PET Siemens Biograph Vision Quadra into public health in Victoria.
- Shape the Future of Theranostics: Work in the state-of-the-art Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre adjacent to The Alfred. This facility includes multiple uptake and therapy bays making it one of the largest theranostic departments in Australia.
- Research Opportunities: This rare public health role combines clinical and research medical physics. You’ll help develop and test novel PET image reconstruction and analysis methods, with a focus on the exciting capabilities of total body PET systems.

Qualifications and Experience Required
- ACPSEM Registration: Diagnostic Imaging Medical Physicist (Nuclear Medicine)
- Essential: A passion for patient-centred care, innovation, and teamwork
- Preferred: PhD in PET physics or closely related area
