Department

The Medical Oncology Unit provides co-ordinated multidisciplinary management for adult patients with malignancies. An important component of this care are the Clinical Trial/Research activities we participate in, which enable us to offer forthcoming investigational treatments to our patients. Alfred Cancer Trials (ACT) conducts phase I, II and III trials, and is a participating member of both National and International Clinical Trials Groups, incorporating both pharmaceutical industry sponsored and investigator driven studies across a wide range of tumour types.

Position Summary

Have responsibility for the co-ordination and management of clinical studies including:

  • The trial related care of patients
  • Collection, processing and transport of trial pathology samples
  • Related clinical trial data
  • Regulatory management
  • Ensure all clinical trials are performed in accordance with the study protocol and in line with the regulatory, ethical and legal requirements outlined by the ICH-GCP, TGA, Note for Guidance on Good Clinical Practice (CPMP/ICH/135/95), the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research, and the applicable state/federal privacy laws and institutional policies.
  • Contribute to strategies to improve performance aligned with international best practice standards and departments expectations, in conjunction with the team leader

Qualifications and Experience Required

Essential

  • Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Applied Science
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environm
  • Knowledge of key concepts of Cancer Biology
  • Biomedical research laboratory experience

Desirable

  • A basic understanding of oncology patient management
  • Understanding of principles of immunotherapy
  • Understanding of GMO drugs
