Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services. On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

About the role
The Senior Cyber Security Engineer is a critical role, responsible for protecting Alfred Health’s information systems and networks from cyber threats and vulnerabilities and supporting the successful implementation of Alfred Health Cyber Security Strategy and Action plan. The Senior Cyber Security Engineer will be expected to support the development, maintenance and execution of Alfred Health’s Digital Health Cybersecurity strategy and action plan to centralise and automate the security operations technology and process, management of permanent and contingent staff, contractors, partners, 3rd party and patient electronic identities and access to Alfred Health’s systems and data.
This role will be responsible in implementing and maintaining security measures to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of digital assets.
Key responsibilities include managing security tools and technologies, participating in incident response activities, monitoring and analysing security logs, collaborating with IT teams on secure configurations, conducting regular security audits and staying current on industry trends. Successful candidate should have a strong background in information security, familiarity with security frameworks and standards, experience with various security tools, and excellent problem-solving and communication skills. The role will also include ensuring adequate controls are designed and implemented to ensure that Cyber Security risks are minimised to an acceptable level.
About you
- Tertiary qualification in IT, Cybersecurity and/or appropriate hand-on industry experience.
- Five (5)+ years of experience in cyber security, with a focus on cyber security engineering.
- Strong knowledge of security principles, technologies, and best practices, including network security, encryption, authentication, and access control.
- Certification and/or relevant experience in SecOps and Incident Response, and other IT on-premises hosted, and cloud-based technologies (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).
- Demonstrated experience implementing and using various technology and security solutions and architecture.
- Demonstrated coding experience in SecOps automation and malware analysis during Incident Response investigations.
- Familiarity with security frameworks and standards, Information Security Manual (ISM), Essential 8, ISO27001, NIST, CBCF, PSPF, or CIS Critical Security Controls.
- Solid understanding of network protocols, operating systems, and web application security.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
