The Department
Alfred Health Occupational Therapy Services operates across The Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham Hospitals, with clinical services aligned to Alfred Health's strategic goals and operational performance targets. The Occupational Therapy Service is committed to the provision of high-quality, evidence-based care, and strongly values professional development and clinical supervision. Clinical service provision is focused on inpatient acute, rehabilitation and aged care streams, for diverse patient populations including emergency, general medicine, surgical, orthopaedic, neurological, trauma, spinal, amputee and burns/plastics speciality units.

The Role
Grade 3 Senior Occupational Therapist - a key member of the Occupational Therapist leadership team.
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Alfred Occupational Therapy department as a senior clinician and stream leader of the General Medicine, General Surgery and Emergency and Trauma Centre (E&TC) stream. The person in this role will bring a high level of clinical expertise to support a caseload of patients who are unwell with complex medical problems including dementia/delirium, vascular, and renal caseloads. The Grade 3 Occupational Therapy stream leader also supports service delivery in the Alfred Hospital Emergency & Trauma Centre, working closely with the Grade 3 E&TC clinical specialist. The successful Occupational Therapist will be identified as a clinical leader and will apply this knowledge, skill and expertise to develop the clinical practice of individuals and the wider team. With a strong focus on multidisciplinary care, they will work closely with the medical, nursing and other allied health teams to progress patient care and pathways to home or community settings.
The successful OT is required to display autonomy of practice, whilst also contributing strongly to the multi-disciplinary team via the provision of high-quality inpatient assessment and intervention. An important part of this senior role is that the occupational therapy clinician will have the opportunity to lead various teaching/training and quality improvement activities across the Occupational Therapy Service, Allied Health directorate, and clinical program, and will represent Allied Health on allocated committees. In addition, they will be responsible for leading a departmental portfolio, as well as the supervision and mentoring of junior Occupational Therapy staff, Allied Health Assistants and/or occupational therapy students.
It is a requirement of all Alfred Health staff that they may be required to work across all Alfred Health site (Alfred Hospital, Caulfield Hospital and Sandringham Hospital) based on clinic service demands. At Alfred Health, the Occupational Therapy service delivers a seven-day model of care and the incumbent in this role may be required to assist with weekend service provision on a periodic basis.
Key Skills
- Advanced Occupational Therapy knowledge and skills in general medicine and surgical diagnostic groups, as well as, evidence based practice in care of delirium and dementia, falls and pressure care.
- Stream leadership experience and provision of supervision to occupational therapy staff, allied health assistants and occuaptional therapy students.
- A strong commitment to ongoing learning and development.
- Understanding of quality improvement/research frameworks and research translation skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability in both clinical service provision and interactions with the team.
- The ability to work effectively as an Allied Health Professional by being able to demonstrate an ability to work within and across teams.
Qualifications Required
- B. App Sc (OT), B. Occupational Therapy, MOT prac or recognised equivalent
- Full Registration held with Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (AHPRA)
- Member of OT Australia (or eligibility for membership)
- Minimum seven years of clinical experience in Occupational Therapy
- Current Victorian Driver's License (unrestricted)
