The Role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Grade 2 Occupational Therapist to join the Occupational Therapy team at Alfred Health for 12 months.

The successful applicant for this Grade 2 Occupational Therapy position will apply their knowledge, skill and expertise to deliver excellent clinical service to patients in the Emergency & Trauma Centre (E&TC). The role is part of an allied health interdisciplinary team, working closing with the E&TC Allied Health Team Leader, to improve the care of vulnerable and older patients, targeting patients 65 years and over. The Allied Health in the E&TC use a Hybrid Model of Care (working within the traditional scope of their profession and within a defined transdisciplinary scope). A key component of the Occupational Therapist role in the E&TC is to assess patients who present with mild traumatic brain injuries or concussions and provide education to patients, families and staff. Shifts in E&TC will be 8hrs, with start times varying from 7am, 8:30 and 10:30am.

At a Grade 2 level, Occupational Therapists are required to display autonomy of practice, whilst also contributing strongly to the multi-disciplinary team via the provision of high-quality inpatient assessment and intervention. It is an expectation that Grade 2 clinicians will lead various teaching/training and quality improvement activities across the Occupational Therapy Service, and will be responsible for the supervision and mentoring of junior Occupational Therapy staff, Allied Health Assistants and/or undergraduate students.

At Alfred Health, the Occupational Therapy service delivers a seven-day model of care and the incumbent in this role may be required to assist with weekend service provision on a periodic basis.

  • A team-first approach and be a consistent and proactive team player.
  • The ability to work effectively as an Allied Health Professional by being able to demonstrate an ability to work within and across teams.
  • Desirable: knowledge and experience in mild traumatic brain injury.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • B. App Sc (OT), B. Occupational Therapy, MOT prac or recognised equivalent.
  • Full Registration held with Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (AHPRA).
  • Member of OT Australia (or eligibility for membership).
  • Minimum three years of clinical experience in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current Victorian Driver’s License (unrestricted).
  • Current Working with Children’s Check.
