On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

The Department

The Alfred Cancer Program is responsible for the overall delivery of a comprehensive cancer service which involves a number of clinical areas and units including Medical Oncology, Clinical Haematology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Apheresis, State-wide Haemophilia Service, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care and the Victorian Melanoma Service. Alfred Health delivers a comprehensive suite of services which involves a range of diagnostic services, surgical, radiation and oncology therapies. This now includes the Integrative Oncology Unit and Wellness Centre, established in 2024 to provide evidence-based supportive care for cancer patients.

An exceptional opportunity exists for a motivated and skilled GR 2 Exercise Physiologist to join the Integrative Oncology Unit within the Alfred Cancer Program. This is your chance to be part of an innovative and rapidly evolving service that is redefining how supportive cancer care is delivered holistically to outpatients living with and beyond cancer.

Now in its second year of operation, the Integrative Oncology Unit is located within the Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre (PFMCC) — a purpose-built, multidisciplinary centre designed to provide world-class, patient-centred care. The Unit delivers evidence-based therapies that sit alongside traditional oncology treatments, empowering patients and families to optimise health, wellbeing, and quality of life throughout their cancer journey.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic, collaborative environment and is eager to contribute to the continued growth and development of this exciting new service.

The Role

The Grade 2 Exercise Physiologist (Integrative Oncology) will play a central role in delivering safe, individualised, and evidence-based exercise interventions to people affected by cancer. Working collaboratively with our enthusiastic and supportive multidisciplinary team, key responsibilities include:

  • Deliver individual and group-based exercise programs tailored to the needs of outpatients across all stages of the cancer care continuum
  • Provide expert assessment and exercise prescription
  • Educate and empower patients to engage in self-management and sustainable exercise habits
  • Collaborate closely with nursing, medical, allied health and complementary therapy practitioners to ensure holistic and coordinated care
  • Contribute to the ongoing development, evaluation, and refinement of the cancer exercise program and broader Integrative Oncology services
  • Participate in research, quality improvement, and service innovation initiatives to advance best practice in supportive cancer care

About You

You are an empathetic, enthusiastic professional who is passionate about improving the lives of people affected by cancer. You are motivated to improve patient centred outcomes related to physical activity. You excel at building strong therapeutic relationships, communicating with warmth and professionalism, and working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Tertiary qualification in Exercise Science or equivalent (Bachelor or Masters of Exercise Science, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Allied Science, Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science)
  • Current accreditation as an Exercise Physiologist with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA)
  • At least 3 years of relevant clinical experience such as acute cancer care, oncology rehabilitation and/or palliative care
  • Skilled in individual and group exercise prescription, in person and via telehealth, with commitment to evidence-based service protocols
  • Excellent communication, skills (verbal and written), collaboration and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated organisational, time management, planning and priority setting skills
  • Well-developed information technology skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
