Position Summary

The Federal Department of Health have provided funding to the states to provide access to HIV Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) to individuals at risk of HIV who do not have Medicare access.  This is a key initiative within the National HIV Strategy to reduce transmission of HIV. 

Men who have sex with men (MSM) born overseas and those newly arrived in Australia are priority populations for HIV prevention.   

The Victorian HIV Service and Melbourne Sexual Health Centre (MSHC) will lead this project to establish clinics for Medicare ineligible individuals within their existing services. The role will establish responses for rural and regional Victoria through partnerships with local services, establish partnerships with key GP clinics and establish outreach clinics in key geographic areas.  Access to PrEP medication will be provided through partner community pharmacies and pathology via Alfred pathology or private pathology services. 

This role will:

• lead the PrEP Program for people at risk who are Medicare Ineligible, establishing and maintaining a steering committee with community stakeholders and project control group
• collate activity data across sites and meet the Department of Health key performance indicators (KPIs). 
• with the clinical team, lead establishment of services across the Victorian HIV Service and MSHC.
• develop partnerships to expand access geographically and ensure access to community pharmacies and pathology services.
• coordinate a team of registered nurses, nurse practitioners and administration staff involved in the service at The Alfred. 
• In partnership with the medical lead and nurse practitioners the role will be responsible for the quality of care provided within the service at The Alfred. 

The role will be a key communication bridge between the PrEP clinical services at MSHC and The Alfred.

• Demonstrates experience in providing education to health professionals, care givers and patients
• Demonstrates an ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
