The Department
The Alfred Health Psychology Department comprises of approximately 130 psychologists, including Clinical Psychologists, Clinical-Forensic Psychologists and Clinical Neuropsychologists. We provide excellent, innovative, evidenced based, inclusive and collaborative psychological services to improve the health, wellbeing and development of consumers, carers, staff and broader systems.
Psychologists are based at The Alfred Hospital (Acute Health), Alfred Mental and Addiction Health (AMAH), Caulfield Hospital (Subacute, rehabilitation and community services), and Sandringham Hospital.
The Role
- This is an exciting opportunity for a new-graduate psychologist who has recently completed a clinical psychology doctoral program. Our well-established psychology graduate program will support your transition into the workforce while you undertake the PsyBA clinical psychology registrar program
- One position is available for a new-graduate psychologist seeking clinical psychology endorsement via one of the two doctoral pathways – i.e., (a) ‘Approved to sixth year with a Doctoral thesis (e.g. combined MPsych/PhD)’, or (b) ‘Approved to seventh year or above (e.g., DPsych/PsyD), as per the Psychology Board of Australia Guidelines on Practice Endorsement
- This is a fixed-term 18-month contract and is therefore best suited to new graduates who can complete their endorsement under the timeframe specified within the doctoral endorsement pathways
Commencing August 2025, Fixed Term Appointment – 18 months – Full-time 80 Hours + ADO - The successful candidate will need to commence in August 2025 and therefore must have general registration and be eligible for the registrar program by this time

What We Offer
- You will complete two rotations in services within Alfred Mental and Addiction Health (AMAH). You will be supervised by experienced Senior Clinical Psychologists in each rotation site and receive supervision and support from a dedicated Psychology Educator throughout your program
- You will participate as a member of multi-disciplinary teams and provide a range of clinical psychology services to consumers and carers at each rotation site, including but not limited to psychological assessment, individual, family and group-based psychological intervention
- You will be enrolled in Alfred Health’s Psychology Registrar Learning and Development Program, which includes regular professional development workshops focussed on the PsyBA endorsement competencies, guest presenters from across the hospital, and the opportunity to network with other psychology registrars working across Alfred Health
- Four hours of protected time per week for reflective practice and self-directed learning in your first year
- Discovery Days, providing you with the opportunity to observe the work of other psychologists and clinicians at sites across AMAH
- Access to professional development opportunities through the psychology department and AMAH Workforce Development and Education Calendar
- In addition to the PsyBA competencies for your clinical registrar program, you will also be supported to develop personal wellness and resilience strategies, explore career pathways in public health, and working with lived experience staff members as well as carers and families
Qualifications and Experience required
Essential
- Clinical Psychology Masters/PhD, or DPsych in Clinical Psychology. You must be eligible for either the (a) Approved to sixth year with a Doctoral thesis (e.g. combined MPsych/PhD) endorsement pathway, or (b) Approved to seventh year or above e.g. DPsych/PsyD endorsement pathway, as per the PsyBA Guidelines on Practice Endorsement
- General registration under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (Victoria) Act 2009
- Eligibility to enrol in the Clinical Psychology Registrar Program under PsyBA
Desirable
- Membership of the APS and the APS College of Clinical Psychologists.
