The Role

An exciting opportunity exists to join our Occupational Therapy team in a permanent capacity. We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic, and skilled Occupational Therapist to provide high quality assessment and intervention to sub-acute inpatients. The role will commence in the fast stream rehabilitation unit at Caulfield Hospital, primarily working with patients presenting with a diverse range of subacute conditions inclusive of spinal, neuro and orthopaedic injuries. Your work will be in the areas of maximising functional independence, seating and positioning, maximising safety and supporting discharge pathways from hospital to the community, including NDIS. In this role, you will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team and contribute to interdisciplinary goal setting to achieve optimal patient care.

At a Grade 2 level, Occupational Therapists are required to display autonomy of practice, whilst also demonstrating a commitment to patient-centred care, collaborative practice and evidence-based knowledge translation. There will also be opportunities for Grade 2 clinicians to be involved in various teaching/training and quality improvement activities across the Occupational Therapy Service, and will be responsible for the supervision and mentoring of junior Occupational Therapy staff, Allied Health Assistants and/or undergraduate students.

This position may also extend to offer the unique opportunity of supporting sub-acute inpatient activity across other clinical areas and Alfred Health sites (Caulfield, Alfred, Sandringham). At Alfred Health, the Occupational Therapy service delivers a seven-day model of care and the incumbent in this role may be required to assist with weekend service provision on a periodic basis.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Demonstrated best practice in patient assessment, intervention and discharge planning
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and modify service delivery in accordance with evidence-based practice
  • Experience in supervision of junior staff and students is highly desirable

Qualifications Required

  • B. App Sc (OT), B. Occupational Therapy, MOT prac or recognised equivalent
  • Full Registration held with Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • Member of OT Australia (or eligibility for membership)
  • A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in occupational therapy
  • Current Victorian Driver's License (unrestricted)
