The Department

Alfred Care Group Pharmacy is seeking an experienced hospital pharmacy technician to lead our technician training and education programs as our Senior Supervisory Pharmacy Technician – Learning & Development 

The Role

• Champion workforce development by leading the education, training, and competency framework for Pharmacy Technicians, helping to build a highly skilled workforce prepared for both current and emerging models of practice.
• Influence the future of pharmacy practice through the coordination and delivery of training programs that strengthen workforce capability and support safe, efficient, and consistent service delivery.
• Make a lasting impact on learning and culture by partnering with clinical and operational leaders to drive educational excellence, support innovation, and enhance professional development opportunities across the pharmacy department.

• Holds a Certificate IV in Hospital Health Services Pharmacy Support (or equivalent), together with significant hospital pharmacy experience and a strong understanding of PBS, HSD, and Special Access Scheme requirements.

About the Department and Learning and Development Team 

The Pharmacy services operate across all Alfred Care Group sites and are well recognised nationally and internationally for high quality, innovative, patient-focused services, education and training programmes as well as significant research output.  

The Pharmacy Learning and Development team comprises both pharmacists and a pharmacy technician and plays a vital role in the delivery of core pharmacy services across Alfred Care Group. The team oversees the learning and development of all pharmacy team members and manage several unique portfolios: 

• Clinical Pharmacist Education Programs (Intern Program, Residency Program, Advanced Clinical Training Programs)
• New staff orientation and training
• Pharmacy Technician expanded scope training programs (including the ‘Tech-Check-Tech’ pharmacy technician-led accuracy checking program and ward-based technician training)
• Clinical Trials CT Trial Hub credentialing program, which supports hospital across Victoria and interstate to build capacity in their Pharmacy Clinical Trials workforce (https://www.alfredhealth.org.au/news/alfreds-pharmacy-excellence-heads-to-the-regions/)
• The Pharmacy Learning & Development Hub, which runs external programs in a variety of Clinical Pharmacy and specialty practice areas (https://learning.alfredpharmacy.org.au/)
• Monash University Pharmacy Undergraduate program unit coordination
• Student placement programs for both pharmacy students and pharmacy technician students
• Various external education partnerships including Latrobe Regional Health and Mildura Hospital partnerships

Qualifications & Experience required

• Completed or working towards Certificate IV in Health (Hospital Pharmacy Technician) or equivalent
• Minimum of three years full-time experience as a Pharmacy Technician essential, with experience working in a public hospital pharmacy environment an advantage
• Experience supervising or training staff desirable
