On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

The Department
Our Acute and Integrated Care services operate from our patients’ homes, community services and our inpatient wards at Alfred and Sandringham. Working closely with our Emergency Departments, acute specialty units and community partners, we aim to provide high quality acute care, coordinated by an expert interdisciplinary team to meet needs arising from complex acute and chronic disease, in a way that meets our patients’ expressed needs. Our Acute services also play an important role in promoting self-management of chronic conditions and prevention of deterioration through integrated models with primary care.
The Role
The Deputy Director of Operations & Nursing – Acute and Integrated Care will be a senior nurse employed at Alfred Health.
As the Deputy Director of Operations and Nursing – Acute & Integrated Care this position has operational responsibility for the effective delivery of services across inpatient, home, community and outreach services. This includes our General Medicine inpatient wards, Hospital in the Home (HITH) service, Hospital Admission Reduction Program (HARP) service and our Advanced Care Practice team.
A key role is to connect service managers and clinicians together to plan for the delivery of best care that traverses different settings of care. The position will support strategic planning to best configure services to meet current and future need, and mobilise resources to support patients access the care they require as close to home as is feasible
The Deputy Director of Operations and Nursing will provide strategic nursing leadership to consistently deliver a high quality, evidence-based and cost-effective nursing service for patients.
As part of a cohesive leadership team, this position will work in partnership with the Head of Unit General Medicine, and is supported by the Director of Operations and Program Director, our professional leads across medical and allied health, and central teams in access and business strategy.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Registered nurse with tertiary qualification in health care, meets registration requirements with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA and holds or is working towards a master’s degree in health care or business management
- Experience in health service management and an understanding of health services and service delivery objectives
- A record of achievement in delivering services in accordance with the stated performance objectives
- Experience in managing organisational change processes
