The Department

Alfred Health's Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Rehabilitation Centre provides rehabilitation services for people with moderate to severe acquired brain injuries including traumatic brain injuries, stroke, hypoxic brain injuries and other causes of non-progressive brain injury. The service is comprised of an inpatient rehabilitation service, a community rehabilitation service and a 4-bed transitional living service (TLS). The TLS is a purpose built facility to provide rehabilitation to patients with an Acquired Brain Injury in a homelike environment. The rehabilitation program helps assist patients to transition from hospital to facilitate return to community living.

The Role

The TLS is staffed around the clock by Allied Health Assistants and Health Care Workers. The Health Care Worker will be located primarily in the TLS and is one of several health care worker positions within the service. We are looking for an enthusiastic and  dynamic Health Care Worker to provide high quality support to residents of the ABI TLS. The overall objective of the position is to provide support and assistance to the residents residing in the ABI Transitional Living Service whilst delivering safe and quality client-centred care.The Health Care Worker works as part of the interdisciplinary team to provide a flexible and responsive service that works to meet each client’s identified therapeutic goals. This role may also be required to support leave on the ABI in-patient rehabilitation unit or in the ABI community rehabilitation service.

Qualifications and Experience Required

The Health Care Worker is responsible for:

  • Participating in care delivery relating to the residents’ activities of daily living, ensuring that the personal needs and comfort of residents is maintained
  • Assisting in providing a safe environment and additional supervision ensuring resident safety is maintained
  • Enhancing resident's rehabilitation by guiding the performance of activities of daily living and other care activities as outlined in the Health Care Worker specific duty list within the TLS environment
  • Participating in care delivery in the afternoons and overnight across 7 days (Shifts are rostered either 3.15 pm to 11.00 pm or 10.45 pm to 7.15 am) all paid at active rates.

Qualifications and Experience Required

Essential

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • A willingness to contribute to quality patient care 
  • Good interpersonal skills, including an ability to communicate effectively with other staff, patients and families
  • Basic computer skills
  • Certificate III in Health Services Assistance  

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in a healthcare setting
  • Previous experience working with clients who have an acquired brain injury
