On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

The Department

The Medical Oncology Unit provides co-ordinated multidisciplinary management for adult patients with malignancies. An important component of this care are the Clinical Trial/Research activities we participate in, which enable us to offer forthcoming and novel investigational treatments to our patients.

Alfred Cancer Trials (ACT) conducts phase I, II and III trials, and is a participating member of both National and International Clinical Trials Groups, incorporating both pharmaceutical industry sponsored and investigator driven studies across a wide range of tumour types.

The Role

The position is with the Alfred Cancer Trials team and is as a key resource for the research Study Coordinators, Haematology Oncology Day Centre (HOC) nurses and principal investigators, in the care of research patients in HOC and outpatient areas at Alfred Health. The position will provide clinical nurses in HOC, support and education in caring for clinical trial participants, ensuring adherence with clinical trial protocols, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and clinical trial Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s). The position will also provide the Study Coordinators, skilled clinical support, leading excellence in patient care.

Qualifications and Skills Required

Nursing

  • Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via APHRA with a minimum of 3 years post graduate oncology/haematology nursing experience
  • Degree level of education or other relevant further education
  • ADAC accredited 
  • Skilled in IV cannulation and collection of trial specimens from participants 

Medical Scientist

  • Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Applied Science
  • Knowledge of key concepts of Cancer Biology
  • Biomedical research laboratory experience
  • Understanding of clinical medical terminology
  • Current GCP certification and understanding of GCP principles
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Life Sciences
