The Department

The Medical Oncology department provides a coordinated medical service for adult patients with cancer, in conjunction with The Alfred’s comprehensive Surgical, Intensive Care, Radiation and Palliative Care services. We offer a complete range of state-of-the-art treatments for all cancers, including via clinical trials, and links to cutting edge technology and research initiatives through our affiliation with Monash University.

The Role

The Translational Research Operations Lead will support the Director by overseeing the day-to-day operational management of the translational and basic research activities within the Medical Oncology Unit and affiliated research groups within the School of Translational Medicine, Monash University. This role will ensure regulatory compliance and sound laboratory operations, while maximising research outcomes to benefit both patients and staff through access to the latest treatments, technologies and diagnostics.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Tertiary degree in a related field, i.e. Science or Health Sciences, and at least 8 years’ experience in laboratory research.
  • Specialised knowledge of laboratory and research processes, spanning basic and translational disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience with the ethical and legal governance of research activities involving human biospecimens, imaging data, and clinical metadata.
  • Demonstrated commitment to compliance, including adherence to protocols, research ethics, confidentiality, and the ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies, systems and tools.
  • Training in data management and analysis.
