On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

About the Department

Neurology has long been recognised as one of the major clinical and research strengths of Alfred Health and Monash University. In 2018, the Neurology Unit joined with the other medical neuroscience units, Stroke, Epilepsy and MSNI, and with the Neurosurgery Unit to form a new Clinical Program, Alfred Brain, as one of the flagship academic clinical programs of Alfred Health. In 2019 the Monash-Alfred Psychiatry Centre (MAPrc) joined as a 6th Unit of the Program.

About the Role

Applications are invited for the position of Specialist in Neurology – Epilepsy Research (Fractional) for 7 hours per week at Alfred Health commencing in February 2026. The position is fixed term until January 2028 due to limited funding. 

Key Responsibilities

Some key responsibilities are:

  • Provide clinical expertise in the project "Neuroimaging Foundation Model Infrastructure for Research and Clinical Translation” funded by the Australian National Imaging Facility.
  • Responsibilities will include extracting data from electronic health records, analysis of clinical data from different sources, assistance in the evaluation and validation of a neurology imaging foundation model and a multimodal epilepsy model on external data cohorts.
  • Undertake other research activities that will fulfil the objectives of the project as needed.

Qualifications and Skills Required

Our preferred candidate must possess the following experience and attributes:

  • Appointees must be legally qualified medical practitioners, registered or registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) without conditions, undertakings or reprimands that could impact on their clinical practice
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians
  • Demonstrable relevant knowledge and experience in Neurology
  • Meeting Alfred Health requirements for credentialing and scope of practice in Neurology
  • Demonstrable research experience in medical artificial intelligence
  • Outstanding communication skills, including well-developed conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to liaise well with other staff at all levels
  • Demonstrated flexibility in problem solving and the capability to develop and sustain highly collaborative relationships with others/ other teams.
