The Department
Alfred Health’s Dietetics and Nutrition Department provides an integrated service at The Alfred, Sandringham and Caulfield Hospitals. This position is based at The Alfred Hospital. The joint Dietetics and Nutrition Department is comprised of 48 EFT and 65 people. It is organised into eight clinical streams and provides a 7-day service. Using evidence-based, patient-centred care, it provides clinical expertise to Alfred Health’s patients during their healthcare journey, including the prevention and treatment of malnutrition and the optimisation of nutritional wellbeing and recovery through tailored specialised nutrition therapy.
Alfred Health’s Dietetics and Nutrition Department has a long and valued relationship with The Alfred, with the first dietitian being employed in 1930. It has a proud history of clinical and academic excellence. The Department has strong relationships with Monash and Latrobe University Nutrition Departments and is integral to the clinical teaching and training of student dietitians.
Position Summary
The Grade 3 Intensive Care Dietitian is responsible for co-leading the clinical operations of a small team of dietitians in the critical care stream of Alfred Health’s Dietetics and Nutrition Department and supporting the care of patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The Alfred ICU is one of Australia’s leading ICUs, with 60 beds. It provides a number of state-wide services including trauma, burns, extracorporeal membrane oxygen, and hyperbaric medicine. Clinical expertise in critical care nutrition, strong leadership skills and a proven track record of coordination and implementation of quality initiatives in clinical nutrition are key aspects of this role.
This position works collaboratively with other members of the multidiciplinary team to advance patient centred care and nutrition service development. The successful candidate will be well supported by a high performing team with a great culture. The Grade 3 Intensive Care Dietitian is part of the Dietetics and Nutrition Senior Team and will be provided with clinical supervision, opportunities to grow leadership skills and engage in relevant research and quality work.
Skills and Qualifications Required
- Possesses qualifications providing eligibility for full membership of Dietitians’ Australia (DA) and participation in the APD program
- 7 years of clinical experience, with specialist experience in critical care nutrition of at least 3 years
- Higher qualification in (or proceeding towards) Health Professional Education, Management, Public Health or Research (highly desirable)
- Current driver's liscence
- Current Working with Children Check
