About the role
The Perioperative Nurse Surgical Assistant (PNSA) is a registered nurse who practices at an advanced level of nursing and incorporates professional leadership, education and research into their clinically based practice role.
The PNSA is an expanded scope of practice role that provides a continuum of care with optimal outcomes for the patients undergoing surgical procedures. The nursing role encompasses preoperative patient assessment and education, intraoperative assisting and patient care, progressing to immediate postoperative care, patient and family education regarding wound management.
The PNSA participates in and actively assists the surgeon in completing the operation safely and expeditiously by helping to provide exposure, maintain haemostasis, and perform other technical functions such as open and endoscopic conduit harvesting (EVH) for coronary artery bypass grafting. The role is dependent on the requirements of the surgeon/specialty.
About you
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with Nursing and Midwifery board of Australia via AHPRA.
- Masters of Perioperative Nurse Surgical Assistant
- Significant years’ experience in perioperative nursing post specialist qualification (1 year minimum), and evidence of working at a level of advanced practice in the clinical area
