We have an exciting, fixed term opportunity for a hand therapist in the Alfred Hand Therapy Complex Upper Limb Nerve Injury Service.
POSITION SUMMARY
This role would suit an experienced grade 2 clinician with experience working with patient conditions such as brachial plexus injury, thoracic outlet syndrome and proximal peripheral nerve injuries.
Patient presentations can include traumatic injury for conservative or post-surgical management. As the hand and upper limb therapist in this role you will:
- Address patients’ occupational performance goals from acute presentation to longer-term recovery
- Provide regular intensive upper limb therapy intervention, with a focus on functional and sensorimotor rehabilitation
- Provide streamlined occupational therapy assessment and intervention, and in the case of remote or interstate patients, offer a case management approach to co-ordinate local therapy provision, utilising telehealth technology
- Participate in monthly multidisciplinary patient care and education meetings that include surgeons, radiology, neurology, physiotherapy and occupational therapy
- Work closely with brachial plexus specialist surgeons and liaising with plastics consultants and registrars in relation to treatment planning, updates and concerns
- Participate in regular supervision
- Position is 1 day a week in the Complex UL nerve injury service and an additional day in either hand therapy (trauma/post-surgical caseload) or burns, depending on applicant experience and interests.
- This position is as part of the Alfred Hand Plastics, Hand Therapy and Burns Stream. We are a team of 10 occupational therapists with allied health assistant support.
Qualification and Experience Required
Essential
- Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, MOTPrac or recognised equivalent
- Eligible for membership of Occupational Therapy Australia
- Registered to Practice with AHPRA
- Experience in treating upper limb nerve conditions including peripheral nerve injury, brachial plexus injury and thoracic outlet syndrome.
- Experience in research and measuring outcomes of occupational therapy services
- Experience in clinical area relevant to the position
Desirable
- Minimum three years clinical experience
- Clinical experience in Hand Therapy
- Experience in service delivery with the use of telehealth
- Member of the Australian Hand Therapy Association
