Alfred Health
Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory, to inpatient and home and community-based services.
The Alfred Hospital Department of Intensive Care is a state of the art 65 bedded unit that treats over 3500 patients per year. The Alfred ICU provides Victorian state services for heart and lung transplantation (including paediatric lung transplantation), short- and long-term mechanical circulatory support (MCS) including extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and Impella, burns and hyperbaric medicine. The Alfred is one of two centres providing state services for adult trauma, HIV and bone marrow transplantation. In addition, most other surgical and medical subspecialties are represented in the case-mix, keeping in line with the quaternary referral centre status of The Alfred Hospital.
This role is that of a Fellow within the Intensive Care Department, located at The Alfred, starting in February 2026 for 12-month duration. This role has been approved by College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) as a Transition Year (TY).
Applicants must have case mix experience relevant to the Alfred ICU and have passed the CICM fellowship examination, or have received their CICM or equivalent intensive care fellowship. CICM trainees must have completed all their training requirements prior to commencement of the role including the college project and all Workplace Based Assessments (WBA).
ICU fellows will assist the intensive care unit by providing senior clinical input and departmental activities. Fellows will also have the opportunity to gain experience in specific clinical areas of intensive care and develop skills that will enable a smooth transition to becoming a consultant intensivist. Candidates are required to have education and/or quality improvement experience and/or research. Candidates are expected to demonstrate and develop a non-clinical interest.
Shortlisted applicants will be asked to prepare a 5-minute presentation as part of their interview. The presentation should include clinical and non-clinical aspects for development and implementation relevant to the position.
