The Department

ALFRED MENTAL & ADDICTION HEALTH (AMAH) - PROGRAM, DEPARTMENTS & UNITS
Alfred Mental & Addiction Health is responsible for the operation of services, which focus on people with a severe mental illness residing in the Inner South Eastern area of Melbourne.
AMAH services comprise five programs:

  1. Consultation Liaison and Emergency Psychiatry
  2. Child and Youth Mental Health (including headspace)
  3. Adult Inpatient Psychiatry
  4. Adult Community Mental Health
  5. Caulfield Aged and Liaison Psychiatry

These teams are located at the Alfred Hospital (Commercial Road, Prahran), at 549 St. Kilda Road, 607 St Kilda Rd, Alma Road CCU in St. Kilda, and at our Prevention and Recovery Centre (PARC) at Nicholson Street Prahran. Caulfield Aged and Liaison Psychiatry is located at Caulfield Hospital (Kooyong Rd, Caulfield) and the Child & Youth Service is located in Moorabbin and headspace service in various locations in Victoria. Alfred Mental & Addiction Health also works in partnership with relevant local non-government and social support agencies.

The Role

The position is based at Caulfield Hospital – Baringa Aged Mental Health Unit, and the incumbent will be closely supervised by the RPN3s and senior clinician to provide a secondary support role to residents at Baringa.
The position will provide the incumbent the opportunity to develop skills in community and develop a portfolio of community support services. Baringa operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. ARCC provides a graduated model of residential rehabilitation for people with mental illness and associated disability unable to be supported in less intensive community options.

Qualification & Experience Required

Essential

  • Registration with APHRA as a nurse.
  • A current driver’s licence is essential.
  • Post registration experience is essential, preferably in inpatient or residential rehabilitation settings.
  • Demonstrable record of safe and appropriate clinical practice with sound risk and mental state assessment skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of key aspects of Mental Health Act and other relevant Acts.
  • A high performance, team player who is customer focussed, motivated and enthusiastic.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate experience
  • Experience of running therapeutic groups
  • Experience in supporting consumers with AOD interventions
