The Department
Alfred Health Radiation Oncology (AHRO) is a unit of a comprehensive cancer service, with sites located at;
- The Alfred - Melbourne (ARO)
- Gippsland Radiation Oncology (GRO) at Latrobe Regional Health (LRH) - Traralgon
- Sale Radiation Oncology (SRO) at Central Gippsland Health, Sale Hospital
The service provides the full range of general radiation oncology and radiation therapy services in addition to some specialised services with both state and national significance.
Position Summary
The role of a Senior Radiation Therapist Educator is to facilitate, support, and advise on the educational development of learners (ie undergraduate students, graduates undertaking a supervised practice program) and qualified radiation therapy staff in the context of ensuring a high quality educational clinical learning community and environment at AHRO. In so doing the incumbent/s will work closely with the cross campus RT Manager/s, Senior RT group and with other departmental and hospital staff, units and universities as appropriate and required. The role will require leading the education team at each campus with a focus on maintaining and further enhancing a unified and collaborative approach to radiation therapy clinical education over the Alfred Health Radiation Oncology service as a whole.
The Senior Educator role can be maintained either by a single person working across both sites equally (with some flexibility in how they manage their time but maintaining 38 hours per fortnight at each site) or conversely there is an opportunity for two suitable candidates to job share and have separate Grade 4 Educators at ARO and GRO (0.5EFT at each site).
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Comprehensive skills and knowledge base in radiation therapy practice commensurate with experience at this level.
- Demonstrated educational and instructional skills and knowledge and understanding of the educational needs of learners and support of the professional development for qualified staff.
- Bachelor of Applied Science in Medical Radiations or equivalent
- National Registration with AHPRA to practice as a Medical Radiation Practitioner (Radiation Therapist)
- Victorian Department of Health Radiation Use Licence
- Current and satisfactory Police Check
Highly Desirable
- Experience with ARIA® oncology information system, Eclipse™ treatment planning system, TrueBeam® linear accelerators, Exactrac® patient monitoring system & AlignRT® Surface Guided Radiation Therapy system.
- Membership with the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy
- Possesses specialist knowledge in the education setting and has a minimum of ten years’ experience in the profession.
