The Department

Alfred Health Occupational Therapy Services operates across The Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham Hospitals, with clinical services aligned to Alfred Health's strategic goals and operational performance targets. The Occupational Therapy Service is committed to the provision of high-quality, evidence-based care, and strongly values professional development and clinical supervision. Clinical service provision is focused on inpatient acute, rehabilitation and aged care streams, for diverse patient populations including emergency, general medicine, surgical, orthopaedic, neurological, trauma, spinal, amputee and burns/plastics speciality units

The Role

An exciting opportunity presents for a suitably qualified Occupational Therapist to join the large and supportive team at Alfred Health. The successful candidate will provide high-quality services in the area of driver assessment and rehabilitation or driver training. They will work with a diverse client group including those with acquired impairments, disabilities and changes related to ageing, to support them in their valued occupations of driving and accessing the community. They will provide a comprehensive assessment of driving competence in line with legislative expectations as well as organisational expectations, design relevant driver rehabilitation programs, and provide clients and their support people with guidance through the licensing process as applicable. They will liaise closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure that optimal patient outcomes are achieved, including driving instructors, health professionals, and licensing authority representatives.  They will also have opportunities to contribute to training and engagement in quality improvement activities relevant to the role. The Alfred Health Occupational Therapy Driving Assessment Service is a Registered Service Provider of the National Disability Insurance Scheme and also provides services to public patients and other compensable patients.

Skills and Experience Required

  • B. App Sc (OT), B. Occupational Therapy, MOT prac or recognised equivalent
  • Completion of relevant post-graduate qualifications for Driver Assessor Occupational Therapists
  • Full Registration held with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia 
  • Member of OT Australia (or eligibility for membership)
  • Minimum three years of clinical experience in Occupational Therapy
  • A comprehensive knowledge of driver assessment and rehabilitation processes
