About the opportunity

Are you finishing school and considering a gap year with purpose? Thinking about a pathway into education, youth work or community services? Or looking for a meaningful career change where you can make a real difference every day?

AGA is seeking expressions of interest for a Trainee Education Support opportunity. This role is ideal for people who enjoy working with young people, are patient and reliable, and want to build practical skills while gaining experience in a school or community learning environment.

About the role

As a Trainee Education Support, you will assist teachers and education professionals to support student learning, wellbeing and participation while completing a nationally accredited qualification. You will be part of a supportive team and receive guidance while developing the confidence and skills needed to work in education support.

This is a practical opportunity to get paid while you learn, combining hands-on experience in a school setting with flexible online learning delivered during school holiday periods.

What you may be doing

  • Supporting students with classroom activities, learning tasks and routines.
  • Assisting teachers to prepare resources and maintain positive learning spaces.
  • Encouraging student participation, confidence and inclusion.
  • Providing support to students with a range of learning needs under supervision.
  • Helping with general administrative and operational classroom tasks.
  •  Learning about student safety, wellbeing, respectful behaviour and professional boundaries.

Who should apply?

We encourage expressions of interest from a broad range of people, including:

  • Gap year students who want practical experience before further study.
  • Recent school leavers looking for a supported entry into the workforce.
  •  Parents or carers returning to work and seeking a community-focused role.
  • People considering a career change into education, disability support, youth work or community services.
  •  Anyone who is reliable, respectful and motivated to support young people to learn and grow.

What we are looking for

  • A genuine interest in working with children and young people.
  • Good communication skills and a willingness to learn.
  •  Patience, empathy and a positive attitude.
  • Reliability, punctuality and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Respect for diversity, inclusion and confidentiality.
  •  A commitment to completing traineeship requirements and workplace learning.

What you will gain

  • Paid, hands-on workplace experience in an education support setting.
  • Support from experienced staff, supervisors and trainers.
  • Access to a nationally accredited course with flexible online learning options during school holidays.
  • The chance to earn an income while building real skills, confidence and experience in education support.
  •  A pathway into future roles such as Education Support Worker, Teacher Aide, School Support Officer or further study in education and community services.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to students, schools and the local shire community.
  • Eligibility and requirements

Applicants may be required to undertake a Working With Children Check, meet relevant traineeship eligibility requirements and complete any pre-employment checks required by the host workplace. Further details will be provided to shortlisted applicants.
