Join Our Transitional Energy Team

Based in Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne, you’ll lead the design and delivery of transitional energy solutions across Australia. As our Transitional Energy Lead, you will guide a high‑performing team working across thermal and renewable energy projects, applying deep technical expertise to future‑focused energy challenges.

The Opportunity

You will lead a team of Mechanical and Process Engineers within WSP’s Transitional Energy group, specialising in:

  • Thermal technologies (steam cycle, gas, diesel, waste‑to‑energy, geothermal, waste heat recovery)
  • Hydropower
  • New energy (hydrogen)
  • Energy storage (including compressed air)

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a mechanical and process engineering team to deliver a diverse range of energy projects.
  • Drive business development activities, including developing team strategy.
  • Grow WSP’s capability in innovative and emerging generation technologies.
  • Identify and pursue business opportunities, guiding proposal strategy and development.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Mentor and develop staff to support team and business success.
  • Promote a positive health, safety, environment and quality culture.
  • Lead high‑quality technical outcomes aligned with client needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee multi‑disciplinary projects and ensure effective use of business systems.
  • Manage project and team commercial metrics.

About You

  • Experience in consultancy and/or power generation environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role; team leadership experience highly regarded.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
  • Chartered status and/or state‑based registration (RPEQ, RPEV).
  • High technical aptitude with demonstrated project delivery experience.
  • Strong knowledge of power generation equipment design, operation, and manufacture.
  • Experience managing multiple engineering projects of varying complexity.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate virtually and face‑to‑face.
  • Ability to motivate, mentor and develop others.
  • Skilled in building and maintaining client relationships.
  • Highly accountable, organised, and capable of managing concurrent tasks.
  • Established industry networks.
  • Motivation to grow teams and business capability.
  • Strong commercial acumen and proven ability to achieve business objectives.
  • Ability to lead and deliver projects while liaising across internal teams and clients.
  • Ability to lead and shape strategic outcomes.
